1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

TANGENT Technologies, LLC, doing business as Tangent® Materials (“Tangent,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit www.tangentmaterials.com (the “Site”), submit a form on the Site, contact us, request samples or a quote, file a warranty claim, attend a trade show or event where we are present, apply for a job with us, or otherwise interact with us in connection with our products, including TanDeck™ decking, Tangent PolyLumber™ dimensional lumber, and Tangent PolySheet™ HDPE sheet.

“Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked to a particular individual or household. It does not include information that has been de-identified or aggregated so that it can no longer reasonably be linked to you.

Tangent is a business-to-business manufacturer. Most of the people we interact with are acting on behalf of a distributor, dealer, contractor, fabricator, architect, OEM, or other company. This Policy applies to those business contacts as well as to homeowners and other individuals who visit the Site. If we provide you with a separate privacy notice for a specific program (for example, an employment application portal or a customer portal), that notice controls for that program.

By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site or provide us with personal information.

California residents, please see the California disclosures below.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide to us directly

We collect personal information that you choose to give us, including when you:

  • Identifiers, such as name, email address, phone number, mailing address, zip code, IP address, username and password, and other similar information. We use this information to provide our products and services and to otherwise communicate with you.
  • Commercial information, such as the products and services you purchase or receive from us; the products you purchase; and information you provide in connection with your order (e.g., product or material interest, project name, project location, project start date, intended use, quantities, color preferences, freight preferences, and the content of your message).Our service providers may also collect your method of payment.
  • Professional or employment information, including information relating to your role as a representative or agent of a company or business, such as your job title and contact information, as well as any employment application materials you submit to us. We use this to conduct business with you or your employer, to provide you with services and otherwise communicate with you, and to evaluate you as an employment applicant.
  • Education information, such as your degree or other certifications, should you apply for a job with us.
  • Audio, electronic, visual, or other sensory information, such as photographs and audio/video recordings.
  • Sensitive personal information, such as your payment card number or username and login credentials. We do not use or disclose your sensitive personal information for any purpose other than as permitted by applicable law.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical and usage information through cookies, pixels, web beacons, log files, and similar technologies (described further in Section 6). This may include:

  • Internet activity information, such as IP address, browser type and version, device type and identifiers, operating system, language, time zone setting, referring website, pages viewed, products and documents viewed or downloaded, videos played, search terms used on the Site, links clicked, time spent on pages, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Non-precise geolocation information, such as your location that we derive from your IP address.

2.3 Information we receive from other sources

  • Our distributors, dealers, sales representatives, and channel partners, when they refer a project, register a sale, or pass along an inquiry.
  • Publicly available sources such as company websites, social media and professional networking sites (for example, LinkedIn), industry directories, and building permit or project databases.
  • Business data and lead-generation providers, event organizers, and trade show registration lists.
  • Recruiting agencies, job boards, and background screening providers, in connection with employment applications.

We may combine information that we receive from the various sources described in this Privacy Policy, including third party sources, and use and disclose the combined information for the purposes identified below.

We may also draw inferences from any of the information we collect about your preferences or behavior, including to assess the level of interest in our products and services based on frequency of visits and contact and determine your preferred frequency for receiving offers.

3. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information for the following business purposes:

  • Responding to you. To answer inquiries, send product samples, prepare and deliver quotes, connect you with a distributor or dealer, and process warranty claims.
  • Operating our business. To manage customer, distributor, dealer, and vendor relationships; maintain our customer relationship management (CRM) records; fulfill contractual obligations; and administer accounts, orders, and shipments.
  • Marketing. To send you information about Tangent products, applications, case studies, events, and promotions that we believe may interest you.
  • Improving the Site and our products. To diagnose technical problems, administer the Site, analyze traffic and usage trends, understand which content is useful, and develop new products, materials, and services.
  • Security and fraud prevention. To protect the Site, our systems, our employees, and our customers; to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access; and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.
  • Employment. To evaluate candidates, conduct interviews, verify qualifications, and complete onboarding.
  • Legal compliance. To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal process, and government requests; to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and to meet tax, accounting, and record-keeping obligations.
  • Promotional use of event and project media. To use photographs, video, and testimonials from events and customer projects in our marketing, on the Site, and on our social media channels, with consent where required by law.

We may also use de-identified or aggregated information for any lawful purpose. When we collect, process, or disclose aggregated or de-identified consumer information, we take reasonable safeguards to prevent re-identification as required by law.

4. Marketing Communications and Your Choices

If you provide your email address or otherwise sign up for communications from us, we may send you newsletters, product updates, event invitations, and promotional materials. Providing your information for marketing purposes is voluntary.

You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any marketing message or by contacting us using the information in Section 12. We will process your request promptly. Please note that even after you opt out of marketing, we may still send you transactional or relationship messages, such as responses to your inquiries, quote and sample confirmations, warranty claim updates, and notices required by law.

5. How We Disclose Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Distributors, dealers, and sales representatives. When you request a quote, samples, or a local source for Tangent products, we may share your contact and project information with the distributor, dealer, or independent sales representative that serves your area so they can follow up with you.
  • Service providers. We use third parties to host and maintain the Site, operate our CRM and marketing platforms, send email, provide analytics, process job applications, ship samples, and support our IT, legal, accounting, and other business functions. These providers are permitted to use personal information only to perform services for us.
  • Affiliates and corporate family. We may share personal information with our parent company, affiliates, and subsidiaries for the purposes described in this Policy. Tangent is a portfolio company of Platinum Equity; information may be shared with Platinum Equity and its affiliates for business management, reporting, and compliance purposes.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose personal information to courts, regulators, law enforcement, or other parties when we believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tangent, our customers, our employees, or others.
  • Business transfers. If Tangent is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to customary confidentiality protections.
  • With your direction or consent. We may disclose personal information for any other purpose you request or authorize.

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you with third parties for industry analysis, marketing, and other purposes.

We do not use personal information for the purpose of training large language models.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We may collect information on our Services by automated means such as through cookies, web beacons, log files, local storage, and similar technology (collectively, “cookies”). We and our service providers use these technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, measure Site performance, and, where enabled, deliver relevant advertising.

  • Google Analytics: Our Site uses Google Analytics to help us analyze how users use the Websites and target users with appropriate advertisements. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the Site (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google. Read about Google’s privacy practices.
  • You may disable our usage of cookies through your browser settings. Please note that if you disable your browser’s ability to accept cookies, you will be able to navigate our Site, but you will not be able to take advantage of certain features.

Your choices. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Consult your browser’s Help menu for instructions. If you disable cookies, some features of the Site may not function properly. You may also opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and you may manage interest-based advertising preferences through the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info). Where a cookie banner is displayed on the Site, you may also adjust your preferences there.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Some browsers transmit “Do Not Track” signals. There is no industry standard for responding to them, and the Site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. Where required by applicable state law, we treat a recognized Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a request to opt out of targeted advertising for that device.

7. Third-Party Websites and Social Media

The Site may contain links to websites operated by our distributors, dealers, industry partners, and other third parties, and may include social media plug-ins or embedded content. Those websites and services have their own privacy policies, and we have no control over how they collect or use your personal information. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site before providing personal information to it. Links do not imply our endorsement of the linked site.

8. How We Protect Personal Information

We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure.

No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. Although we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and we are not responsible for disclosures resulting from transmission errors or the unauthorized acts of third parties. You are responsible for keeping any account credentials confidential.

9. How Long We Keep Personal Information

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including to maintain business and customer relationships; satisfy legal, tax, accounting, and warranty record-keeping requirements; resolve disputes; enforce our agreements; and protect our rights; or as may be permitted under applicable law. When personal information is no longer needed, we delete it, de-identify it, or securely archive it in accordance with our retention practices. Warranty claim records are generally retained for the duration of the applicable product warranty period plus any additional period required by law.

10. Children

The Site is intended for adults and business users and is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from an individual under 18, we will delete that information. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us using the information in Section 12 and we will delete it.

11. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights regarding your personal information under certain state privacy laws. Many of these laws exempt information collected in a business-to-business or employment context, and their application to Tangent may be limited. Where they apply, this Section describes your rights and how to exercise them. Nothing in this Section limits any other rights you may have under applicable law.

11.1 Notice to California Residents

This section supplements the information and disclosures contained above. It applies only to California residents about whom we collect personal information as a business under the CCPA. Below describes our practices with respect to personal information over the past 12 months:

  • Tangent has collected the categories of personal information, as well as the sources from which Tangent has collected this information, listed and described in the “Information We Collect” section, above. The purposes for which Tangent has collected personal information are described in the “How We Use Your Personal Information” section, above. Tangent has disclosed personal information for a business purpose to the categories of third parties listed in the “How We Disclose Your Personal Information” section, above.
  • If the Site uses targeting or advertising cookies (see Section 6), the disclosure of identifiers and Internet activity information to advertising partners may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising or “targeted advertising” under California law. You may opt out of this activity through the cookie preferences on the Site, through the industry opt-out tools described in Section 6, or by contacting us. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 18 years of age. We do not otherwise sell personal information in exchange for monetary consideration.

In addition to the rights and choices outlined above, California residents also have the following privacy rights under the CCPA, subject to any applicable exemptions and limitations:

  • Right to know: The right to request to know what personal information we collected about you (categories and specific data elements), from where we collected it, why we have collected, sold, or shared it, and to whom we have disclosed it. You may request this information for specified date range going back as far as January 1, 2022.
  • Right to delete: The right to request that we delete personal information we collected from you.
  • Right to correct: The right to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • Right to opt out: The right to opt out of certain automated processing and profiling activities, as well as the sale and sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising purposes. We do not currently engage in practices involving automated decision-making, profiling, or selling personal information other than as disclosed in this Privacy Policy.

You can exercise your privacy rights as described in the “Exercising Your Rights” section, below.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties to whom we disclosed personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year. You may opt out of these disclosures by writing us at [email protected], or configuring your settings to reject non-essential cookies.

11.2 Exercising Your Rights

If you are a resident of California, you may exercise any of the above rights by emailing [email protected], by calling 800.826.3325, or by writing to the address in Section 12. Please include your name, contact information, your relationship with Tangent (for example, distributor contact, homeowner, job applicant), and a description of your request. If exercise any of your privacy rights, we will not discriminate or retaliate against you.

To protect your information, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before fulfilling a request, which may include matching information you provide against information we already hold or asking for additional information. We will only use personal information provided in your request to verify your identity or authority to make the request. To the extent possible, we will avoid requesting additional information from you for the purposes of verification. We will respond within 45 days of receiving a verifiable request. If we need more time (up to an additional 45 days), we will notify you in writing. We do not charge a fee to process requests unless they are excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded, in which case we may charge a reasonable fee or decline the request and explain why. We may deny your request to know, access, delete, or correct if we cannot verify your identity.

Authorized agents. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may deny a request from an authorized agent that does not submit proof that they have been validly authorized to act on your behalf or if the agent attempts to exercise a right for which they are not legally authorized to do so.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and post the updated Policy on the Site. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice where required by law, such as a prominent notice on the Site or an email to the address we have on file. Your continued use of the Site after the updated Policy is posted means you accept the changes.
